Mary S. Anthony Legacy Society
The planned giving society of the National Susan B. Anthony Museum & House is named in honor of Mary S. Anthony’s unwavering commitment to the cause.
Who was Mary S. Anthony?
Alongside her older sister Susan B. Anthony, Mary dedicated her life to fighting for women’s rights, advocating for equal opportunities, and promoting social justice in her community. Mary Anthony made history as one of the first woman to be paid equal wages when she was hired as principal of a local Rochester school. Each year, she protested at her tax office, reminding officials that collecting taxes from those without a vote is “taxation without representation.”
Mary was known as the heart of 17 Madison Street, tending to their home no matter how far Susan B. travelled. Mary welcomed countless guests to 17 Madison Street during her life, from revolutionary leaders to friends and family.
Mary S. Anthony was an influential figure in her own right, working tirelessly alongside her sister to advance the cause of women’s suffrage. In the same way, we see financial donors play a vital role in ensuring the stability of the Anthony Museum and its ongoing service to families, schools, and individuals. Planning now to make a deferred gift will help ensure that the Anthony Museum experience will be available to future generations.
Through foresight and generosity, individuals can work with the museum to fulfill long-term philanthropic goals while managing current tax situations. A deferred gift may also afford the opportunity to make a more significant gift than might otherwise be possible.
Planned gifts may be made using any of the following vehicles:
Bequests
Appreciated Securities
Charitable Remainder Trust
Charitable Lead Trusts
Life Insurance Policies
It is important to consult with a financial advisor before making major financial decisions. Donors should let the museum know if they have included the Anthony Museum in their estate plans so that museum leaders can express the institution’s gratitude and recognize them as members of the Mary S. Anthony Legacy Society, the Anthony Museum’s planned giving society.
